very few artists have influenced the sound of house and techno as much as roman flügel. having been active since the early 90s under various aliases, few have been revered so widely as a dj, live performer, producer, remixer, intellectual and record label owner. the record labels he helped found, ongaku, klang and playhouse, are pivotal imprints in the electronic music scene, and his ability to gracefully incorporate and master most styles of 4/4 has seen him create a range of genres from techno, house, electro, ambient, idm, downtempo, and acid house.

after recording various psych soul and funk tracks on the whiz record label the real thing carried on after leaving the label to record more studio cuts with musician and producer stu gardner. here they let it rip with an incredible fast version of james browns *give it up, turnit loose* ... and they left in that all important secret ingredient of a lovely long drum break. stu gardner himself took to the microphone on this track, with various background vocals and screams, and did the vocals for the amazing b-side *it s a family thang*!

avian s first release since absorbing its sister label mira comes from chicago based musician connor camburn under the alias litüus, with an entirely beatless collection that well establishes avian as the home for the kind of searching electronic experimentation that would have been found on the ten-inch focused imprint that shifted recently announced would merge with its parent label. the ep follows previous cassette releases under the litüus name for brave mysteries, notice recordings and mazurka editions and comprised entirely of real time single-take recordings on hardware instrumentation. shorn of percussive elements yet not without their own rhythmic structures, camburn s six compositions are free of immediate electronic genre influences and instead draw primarily on non-musical inspiration in addition to various other contextual reference points, as he sought to express ideas of the unraveling or -de-composition- of musical or architectural spaces through musical forms imagined as inverted contours and negative spaces.

ben cohen is a french dj based in paris. he started to play music at the end of the 90�s and produces undefined house/techno with esoteric references invoking the hazy contours of the ever mystical inner zones. he has released two eps on the french label badance and recently voyage to rahoz on bliq. his first appearance on dba was on the various artists excursion dab019.5.

it is no exaggeration to say that ultrastretch has accumulated an array of outstanding releases and artists since its creation in 2011. one knows that being as renown a representative of the underground music scene as sammy dee is, he can easily sign music from any established artist he would like, the so called �big names�, however, when we look at the past seven releases on ultrastretch, the agenda here seems to be another. what has become an apparent and admirable feature of this label/platform and of sammy dee himself is his clear support for new music from young and yet to be discovered talents. it is on that note that ultrastretch 08 brings you romanian artist crihan. hailing from a small town close to cluj, alin crihan moved to bucharest in 2009 to be more in touch with the underground scene and music in the capital as it poses more opportunities for him to grow and develop. from dj�ing in the most various clubs in his home country, his first steps into western europe as a dj came earlier last year at no less than the legendary robert johnson club alongside petre inspirescu in frankfurt. producing under his real name for the past four years, crihan�s release for ultrastretch brings two tracks, setting the listener into two very distinctive paths. the a side, * uelden* is a dance floor oriented track. the first words to come to mind are groove and rhythm, giving the track a somewhat funky feeling overall. the elements have been crafted carefully and therefore appropriately placed just where and when you need them. by simply starting the track with a bass line and shuffling hihats he slowly develops to a journey that not onlyventures further into groove and rhythm but also in mind grabbing harmonies with deep/airy sounding pads giving it a comforting sense of beauty and obscurity. the b side is called a doua dimensiune, literally translated from romanian it means the second dimension. doing justice to the title the track does generate the feeling of being in another dimension. it is a very deep affair into mind-altering soundscapes, very atmospheric and at times dark and obscure. attention to detail is apparent judging by the overlayering of elements featured in this track. a constant rolling base formed of water tapping ambient sounds give way to harmonies made up of strings and random noises on top.

when a label within thirteen catalog releases has only one of them branded as various artists, than the focus on this release seems to be really interesting. exactly that is the case with dreizehn and its three protagonists.

prolific dutch artist conforce is back with another lp on delsin records. this one marks something of a subtle evolution in his sound in that it returns to a more organic and immersive aesthetic. made using various bits of outboard gear, it fuses dub rhythm with ambient detail and propulsive 4/4 kick drums to make for absorbing listening. once again, then, this album proves no one does deep electronic music as well as conforce.

pawas is someone we have admired for a while for his work ethic and talent. his multicultural background was a nice mix into the equation as we push to bring together and collaborate with artists from various regions and influences.

* rust* is the debut single from the new collaborative project between harry agius (better known as midland) and vocalist robbie redway. the project was formed in leeds, written in london and finished in berlin under the influence of ewan pearson. as midland, harry agius has built a reputation for releasing delicately brilliant bass driven house and techno, and over the course of his various releases he has hinted at a desire to explore sounds away from the dancefloor. coupled with the songwriting talents and vocals of robbie redway, *rust* is the first taste of that exploration.

a major 2lp collection of archival recordings by seminal minimalist composer, performer, instrument builder and visual artist arnold dreyblatt. second selection presents eleven pieces selected by oren ambarchi from dreyblatts extensive archive of previously unreleased recordings. recorded in beautifully varying fidelity between 1978 and 1989, the pieces range from solo works to documents of various iterations of dreyblatts long running orchestra of excited strings

waehlscheibe is back: the swiss label keeps on doing what it does best and releases another truly deep and dubby house record. this time its japanese artist takuya morita known for his releases on morris / audio and adjunct who pleases with soft pads and chords, rich delays and ultra low basses. all four tracks on this record are strictly instrumental and oscillate nicely between deep house and techno. moreover, they cover a wide range of moods suitable for playing at various times of the night. the >placid sunset ep< comes with a special 2nd version of the title track which has been reconstructed and stripped down by s&ro and alessandro crimi from waehlscheibe. as always all tracks have been mastered by above smoke at the hole of dub studio.

for the past few years, young denmark vessey has been releasing a series of albums, both as a leader of carious groups and as a sideman in various others, which definitely mark him as one of the most exciting young players in music. vessey�s last album prior to this (2013�s cult classic) employed scud one for the rhythm section. vessey, in his own playing suggest that he may be forging a link between the new mainstream and prior innovations. it is to vessey�s credit that this album achieves a surprising degree of unity. there is little of the haphazard feeling that too often arrends blowing sessions by pick-up bands. it would be easier to mistake this for a group which works regularly. part of that is simply because vessey is a part of the new mainstream, the part that is seeking beyond the accepted common language to find ways of extending it. the rest is because of vessey�s unusual talent.

jeff derringer�s ballorama e.p. is the fourth release from brooklyn born and now berlin based label l.a.g. run by arthur kimskii. the e.p. contains two original tracks the from chicago based techno producer/ smart bar resident with an additional dub version from the duo cassegrain. ballorama is the big room techno bomb with hints of 90&#8242,,,s rave and house like chords and chops. work ethic is an emotional sci-fi roller with restrained emotional melodic tension anchored by rhythmic percussion. the ballorama dub version strips down the original and expertly pans various noise and textures which bounces with tension.

a new white label brought to you by a group of friends including moire&#769,,,,,,,, disguise, etc. in collaboration with phonica records. this marks the debut release from the creative imprint neversleep whose previous work includes the art direction and a&r of moire&#769,,,,,,,�s debut lp *shelter* - out now on werkdiscs/ninja tune - plus various visual work from disguise.
